Is there any reason NOT to use the AVIF image format in 2024?

All I see are potential speed gains over the usual Webp/PNG format we use.

Probably would be great for image-heavy sites & increase your speed on page speed insights.

The reasons for not using it seems to stem from the browsers not currently supporting it.

But, in 2024, most modern browsers support it.

"Since January 2024, this feature works across the latest devices and major browser versions"[¹]

So are there any other reasons why we don't currently use it?

Or maybe everyone here is and I'm still in the stone age of image formats, lol.

AVIF's got its perks with compression and quality, for sure. The thing to watch is your audience's tech. Not everyone's running the latest and greatest, so consider if enough of your users have browsers that support AVIF.

As @RoiBox suggested, make sure you have a good backup solution. Many browsers (and applications) are still in beta testing this (new) feature format.
We have been using it for a while, but we encountered many incompatible add-ons, so we switched back to web format.
