Is there any point using categories/tags if you only have 8-10 articles on your site?

Im working on my onpage seo at the moment, and Im just wondering if theres any point using categories at all? IS there any seo benefit to it. same with tags?

Arent they only to enhance user experience? and if the sites are only 8-10 pages I can fit all the recent posts on the right side anyway thus theres no point of having categories or tags is there? or is there some seo boost for them?

    Please do tell.

For a small site like that, you can end up over optimizing by using tags and categories especially if you have an EMD and your tags/categories are your keywords.

This ^^ (I assume you are using Wordpress) but you can have the best of both worlds and use a plugin like Yoast that if set up right will discount all tags and categories for SEO purposes but still allow your visitors the advantage.

It's a little more messing about but worth it if you actually want categories.
You never know, you might want to expand in the future...
