Are they the same thing?
AIM = AOL Instant Messenger
YM = Yahoo Messenger.
They have similar features. Is that all you needed to know? :crazy:
They're both IM programs. One is from AOL and was originally made so that non-AOL users could still chat with AOL users. YM was originally made by yahoo to compete with ICQ.
There is also ICQ, MSN, WindowLive, MySpaceIM, FacebookChat, GoogleTalk, and I'm sure many others that all function basically the same with just slight differences in the look and feel. They are all P2P programs using their own IRC networks so for the most part you can't use one to chat with someone on another.
I used to have a really small ICQ number cause I signed up when it was about the only IM there was, but I didn't use it for a few years so forgot all my login info. For the most part you just need to use whatever the people you want to chat with are using. So if you IM much, you end up needing to have several different ones.
If you find that you need to have too many running then you can use something like Trillian, Pidgin, Meebo or similar program to manage all the accounts together as if they were all just a single IM program.
And if you want to run houndreds of MSN at the same time. Download "Polygamy 2009". That will fix it for yah!
Hah, hi teguh in blue, got bored of pink?
I think Trillian is better to run different IMs and multiple accounts from same type, plus its can be downloaded almost anywhere.
I don't know why I am in blue. Maybe my donor status has expired.
Are there any automated versions of Polygamy 2009? I've been looking for a decent MSN/Yahoo bot without any luck
Yahoo Messenger is better than AIM because you can receive offline messages when you are offline which is a great feature but in AIM this feature doesnt exist.
and also every time you log into AIM , their web page will pop up automatically which is some how insulting, As i always close it with out even having a look on it.
