    Home Page:
Uploading or downloading individual files isn't bad, but whenever multiple folders are involved, the upload/download process gets very slow as it navigates in and out of folders. I'm using Filezilla right now, but I remember having similar experiences with other FTP programs.

Are there faster methods? I'm specifically trying to upload wordpress themes/plugins to new domains, or backup wordpress sites.

    Efwebs,

Most of the time when this happens it is because your computer is bogged down. Do you have any other programs running that may be a drain on resources?

Another issue could be virus protection software running in the background. Try disabling windows system protection and see if that fixes the issue.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

If you're on cPanel you can zip and ftp over as 1 file which will be much quicker. Then unzip at your destination using file manager. Saves you tons of time.

I came across this same issue a while back. It seems that from all my research I could not really find a good solution to this problem. The general consensus is that FTP is about the fastest you are going to get and the only way to improve is by getting a better internet connection. Another possibility is that your host is capping your download speed so it may be worth asking them if there is anyway to improve the speed.

One final suggestion. If you have shell/SSH access and you are simply backing files up, you could buy a secondary cheap VPS and use rsync to back it up. Server to server transfers are usually much faster because they are normally wired to extremely fast internet connections. A whole server's set of files can be copied across in just a few minutes.

Have you increased the simultaneous connections from 2 to 10 in FileZilla's settings?

FileZilla is very slow with multiple file upload/download. Zip and use the cPanel for those tasks or a different file manager.

    For uploading files.
If you have experience with "ssh" you can upload archived files, connect through ssh, run "mc" and extract them.
The easier way is like "aboss3" offered upload zip file ago to Cpanel->File Manager -> go to the folder you've uploaded file select it and choose extract it from the options.

Type in youtube "cpanel extract files" and you'll find gogo tutorials. (I can't post the links here because i'm newbie...)

To download backup. Just make backup using Cpanel and download it.

I use filezilla and have no issues with uploading speed. Maybe it is your system or just that you have alot or things running at the same time.
