Is there a way to avoid entering SSN during paypal business account sign up?

Even though PP ask for business tax id/fein# etc.... They still require a persons name and SSN number. In the states a persons assets are suppose to be protected from business liabilities etc.

Anyway around having to enter a SSN during the sign up of a business account?

I'm not sure if I was asked for my SSN when I first signed up for a business account more than a year ago, but they did ask for it (and proof of my business) when I started getting 5k worth of transactions.

I think if you're signing up as Sole Proprietor or Single-Member LLC, they'll need your SSN. Otherwise FEIN should suffice.

I signed up for a business account and i didn't have to put in my ssn even though they ask you for it.

Nope, you need a SSN now. A EIN used to work just fine, but not anymore. Even for my LLC, I had to provide a SSN. PayPal wants to know who to come after when the account become negative.

You need to go with a Paypal personal account or premier account first then switch it to a business account.

You're right. Just sign up for personal account first.. then next day or few days click upgrade account.. then upgrade to business. Though you will also be needing ssn if you plan on withdrawing your funds to your bank, cause the initial limit is 500 / month.

I have had a number of paypal accounts in the past 10 years and eventually depending on how much you withdraw the SSN is inevitable, although if you wish to never give it out you can always create new paypal accounts and never pass the threshold.
