I have plenty of tools that can tell me if I rank for a keyword such as "bananas." However, I'd like a program or website to allow me to put in any url (even a site that isn't mine) and determine any keywords it ranks under. Essentially, I can type in a page url or even a directory and determine that for some strange reason, it's ranking well under "chocolate covered popcorn." Then I can try to maximize the SEO in that ranking. Now Google has shown me some paid service so far, but Google isn't reliable because everyone says every product is great. I'd like to be able to find what keywords I'm doing well under in order to know where to focus my efforts. This would be especially helpful considering I could determine what keywords another site ranks under, check the traffic of the keyword, and then see if I can compete under it. Thanks
well i have been searching for something similar to this too, it would be nice if anyone could name the tool if any such tool exsists
http://www.backlinkwatch.com/ is the closest thing I've ever found. I have no doubt that there's better out there though.
I have not heard of anyone sharing such a tool. If one is available it most likely will not be free because that tool would be quite powerful.
I think that will be great, but it will be tough as there are millions of keywords that a page could rank for. But not impossible like google analytics shows from which keyword u get visits, as well as webmaster shows for which keywords ur listed, what paid programs did u get when u searched?
google analytics, altho it will only tell you that you rank for those keywords after the searches are made, but then again, who needs to know that one ranks for keywords nobody searches for??
Alexa can show the top search queries of any site. Also Compete is another great site which shows the complete data of your competitors site, even the sites driving traffic to it, but you need to upgrade to Pro, which is a bit costly.
Thanks for the responses. There were some key points in the original post, however, that some of the recommended tools don't consider. I want to put in any website, directory, or subdirectory. So if my competition has a directory on chocolate cupcakes that I can surpass in rank, I can start my own page on chocolate cupcakes. I've thought about it more and the Google keyword tool can allow me to paste the top results in traffic travis or other programs. My problem is I'm not sure if there is an efficient way to paste the keyword lists that are derived from the keyword tool. I am looking into some of the recommendations now. If I looked at a program and couldn't figure out how it does what I'm looking for, that could be my mistake, though. Some of the recommendations are useful anyway so thanks. Semrush does what I was referring to. Free version has daily limits but seems to have some usefulness. Paid version isn't badly priced, but I'm still looking into my options before paying for things. Seolite is paid only I believe, but I think it does similar things as well.
There are millions of keywords a page could rank for, but a program should be able to calculate which of those keywords have the most traffic etc. and allow you to sort them.
