Say someone is buying or selling something.

You send the money and sellers run away.

Well that sucks. After that it's his word vs her words.

So you choose not to do business at all. A lot of good business opportunities are gone.

I wonder if there is a bhw service where a very trusted members, say mods, can be a witness (with payment).

Details of the deal can be hidden from public (adsense id, etc.).

So before you do the buying and selling, you forward the data to the witnesses. The data must be sufficient so witnesses can figure out who's lying. Things like actual username, etc. If things go wrong the witness can tell who is lying.

Witness can collect $20-$100 depending on amount of transaction. Must be very credible.

    What do you think?

    Just an idea.

When people can trust each other more there will be more trade in bhw. It worths that extra $20-$100.

An escrow service sounds like a good idea.

But the extra $20-$100 will only be worth it for big amount of money, and lots of people learned the had way that the trust someone deserves (even the highest reputable member) goes down as the financial implication goes up.

How will you be sure the escrow (or "witness") can really be trusted (by both the seller and the buyer) and really gives you more security ? Especially with big amounts, he could also very well run with the money and scam both the seller and buyer at the same time.

I'm not telling everyone is a scammer, but in the end this idea could very well increase the overall risk instead of reducing it, couldn't it ?

well, a very good question. Huge itrades? Mod status? $100 is not biggy.

However, why would anyone with such huge reputation risk it over $30?

Reputable means nothing. iTrades can be small. But if people have experience dealing with $1k-$5k then he's good. That being said it's easy to sway or bribe the witness.

Complex. I would still use witnesses for $100 transaction.
