    I have a template that hasnt the more function builtin.
    Is there a plugin that I can install that will work on all my previous posts?
    To clean it up a bit?

    Think this might help

    Evermore is a WordPress plugin that automatically displays short previews of your posts on your home page. Each preview includes a link to the full post. Evermore is simple to use ? just install it and it starts working straight away. If you want, you can also customise the length and appearance of the previews.

    Blog home pages are often too full. By default, WordPress displays the last ten posts on the main page; visitors have to do a lot of scrolling to see if there?s something interesting. With Evermore, visitors see a short preview of each post; they can easily scan your posts, find something interesting, and become hooked.

    Code:
    http://www.thunderguy.com/semicolon/wordpress/evermore-wordpress-plugin/

    upload to your /plugin/
    go to your control panel - plugins and activate

    Actually you can change that in the code quite easily:

    There are two options, one is with a plugin and without. The latter only cuts of text if a < !--more--> tag has been used. If you do not have too many posts this is a good way to do it. you can edit post and add the tag from the panel wherever you want it.

    That it is already built in into the theme. Try adding a more tag to a post and check it on the homepage. If you want to format it differently, change the following:

    PHP:
    <?php the_content( ); ?>
    to

    PHP:
    <?php the_content('Read more...'); ?>
    or to
    PHP:
    <?php the_content("Read More of " the_title(''''false)); ?>
    if you want to take the plugin route, just install the plugin mentioned above, or this one for a little more control.
    Code:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-limit-posts-automatically/
    Though keep in mind that the non-plugin route would be cleaner, as you have more control over where exactly you want a post to be cut.

    Cheers!!
