So I am trying to runs some ads for the first time and I thought I identified a 10,000 search a month keyword specific to my niche and set up an ad targeted to it.

The ads don`t seem to be getting any views at all.. I am guessing I did not set them up properly. Is there a dumbass guide to help me?

I had a $100.00 voucher and put another $10.00 of my own money up.

I would recommend only using exact match keywords for now enclosed in brackets [keyword1] [keyword2] if you use broad it will be harder for you to target being new and you will most likely loose more money. Use exact match load all your keywords and go from there.

Check the download section perhaps you'll see Beating Adwords. The book can guide you through on adwords.
