I have Bluehost and want to do full backups of all my databases from the bluehost shared server to my PC. I contacted bluehost support and they have no clue.

Do you know of any type of bluehost database backup tutorial I could use? Or how to do it so I can do a full restore from my PC if for whatever reason bluehost deletes all my files?

I tried searching on here but couldnt find anything.

thanks

What kind of databases? If mySQL or similar most hosts have an option when you are viewing the database in the admin area to back it up, then you can download to your computer.

I have not used Bluehost before but if they have phpmyadmin then you can backup using that.

If you have asked Bluehost support they should have told you its easy to do. Log into your control panel and just click backup (it should be the first link in the files panel) scroll down a bit and you will see a list of all your DBs just click the one you want to download and save it to your PC.

You can restore it by using the upload and restore feature on the same page.

thanks... will definitely look into it. I cant imagine having 30 websites/data lost due to a problem with the host. I think I would shoot myself.

this is what i do:

all my sites have databases - there all joomla and i use a plugin called joomcloner, however there is a standalone version of it and one specifically designed for wordpress

now what it allows you to do is it will run a complete zip backup, or just a zip backup of your database

so what you do is you get it to run a daily backup everyday using a cronjob in the joomla version there is a cron wizard i dont know about the other version but expect they are in place too

you then use a piece of software called secondcopy to download it to your pc - second copy allows you to set the time etc of when to download a particular file/folder

voila you can download you daily backup to your pc

the standalone version of the cloning/backup software:
http://www.joomlaplug.com/Documenta.../XCloner_-_Standalone_Backup_and_Restore.html

the software you need to move the backup by ftp is secondcopy and you can find it here:
http://www.centered.com/

all the above links are NON affiliated

hth

PS the best host i have ever found for doing backups with is servint.com they do nightly backups for you - but they only offer VPS or dedicated servers... that with support for whitehat sites worth every penny! :)
