I registered my domains all with GoDaddy (marketers usually make fun of me for that but whatever) awhile back and now that I'm starting to use SB to build comment links and getting spooked by threads of people getting calls from angry webmasters, I'm interested in making private all of my domains but I have like 15 of them and it's $10 a year on GoDaddy, so figured this would be a good place to ask if there are cheaper solutions which get the same job done and which I can use outside of GoDaddy?

in my experience the angry webmasters who get in contact tend to be the people who actually know scrapebox and use it themselves so i wouldnt worry on that front, however there is a legitimate reason for wanting to use privacy for domains and it depends on whether they are all on same hosting or on different ones to what the cost will be. I just googled that question and there are a few threads in forums that suggest certain things that you can try

You could move your domains to another registrar if they are more than 3 months old.

rent a PO Box and get a free Google Voice phone number. Technically, most privacy providers actually own the domain (since ownership is determined by the whois data) and you would have to fight the privacy company in court in case of a dispute. And they WILL not go to bat for you if there is a problem.

Internet.bs has always been good to me. They offer free private whois.

Namecheap has free private registration. With Godaddy if you register 5 domains at once you should get an option to add private registration free. I don't buy single domains from Godaddy, but when I use their auctions I try to pick up 5 at a time to avoid the extra cost associated with private registration.

I didn't see it on their website! :(.

Yes, Internet.bs is truly free, totally private whois provided by a panama based non profit organization.
I read their ToS and it states that they will not take any legal action without waiting for your command, so perhaps they will be more lenient to release your domain if anything goes down and you think a court case will force them to turn it over.

I use namecheap. It is really good. But it is expensive tbh. Usually, you can find good coupons ~ 8.50 per domain on their official coupon website, namecheapcoupons.com--I always check there before using 'em.
Also, for every new register, they give you free whois protection for 1 year, then you have to pay like six bucks extra after that.

As far as godaddy, only buy if you have a coupon < $5/domain so that, after 3 months, you can transfer to namecheap.

Registration is free if you buy 5 domains at once with godaddy

a nice trick is to go to the domain manager and add privacy for all your previous domains, then when you add 5 new domains in your cart, the private registration should be free for all (both new and previous) domains.

edit: I forgot to add that you can use this when you have to renew a domain too, just disable the privacy and the privacy back when you buy 5 new domains.

I haven't paid for privacy for years using this method.

hahaha, I work at godaddy. And I never heard of this trick. They make us pay for privacy on our own domains, so we're just gonna keep this a secret between us :D

If you buy domain name on Google then no privacy issue. All the domain are $10, with full privacy. But they have one year registration.

netfirms used to include privacy. I don't know of any others. I just use company name for name field and use a spam bucket email address. I fake all the other data.

Godaddy sucks with their constant upsells, forced renewals for auctions, and other exorbitant fees. Use internet.bs free WHOIS privacy, cheap domains, overseas registrar (you know the benefits), simple UI, just a lot less headache than blow daddy.
