to put your keyword in bold? I read an article somewhere that gave advice that webmasters put their keyword in the bold/strong text because it greatly helps in SEO.

Now before I go around confirming my keywords to my competitors, I decided to ask more experienced people.

Also. I wrote an article and made it my main page. But the problem is that I can't seem to put a perma-link. Will this affect me SEO wise?

It is just my main site url pointing to it.

It's really not a secret. It helps, but don't think that a bolded keyword takes the place of some strong backlinks. They're different, and should be used, together. My Blarticost Solution covers most of what you'd need from an onpage SEO blog/article post. It contains certain things you'd need to put more SEO weight on your site.

All you have to do to rank is make it large and BOLD and italic.

rofl. I was reading it and thinking.. "wtf".

Then when he said "I don't want to give away my keywords to my competitors I thought "WHAT THE FUCK?"

He's worried about his competitors knowing HIS KEYWORDS? lol.

    If X = competitor then

    competitor->keywords = my->keywords

    :)

And how could you even hide keywords from a competitor anyway even if you had a few longtails they weren't using. If a google bot can work out your keywords how can he think a human can't! lol.

    Not sure if serious..

How can it not be obvious?

How could a human possibly not garner the main keywords from reading an article?

If a bot can do it, you don't think a human can? The title gives it away. If the title *doesn't* give it away then you've failed.

You can also just run a keyword frequency checker and voila, your keywords are revealed.

You can't stop a competitor from seeing your keywords. They are by definition a competitor, thus someone who ALREADY shares your keywords.

Sometimes when I am reminiscing and throwing a website together I will use bold words, however I tend to bold a sentence with the keyword in.

Judging by this user's previous posts I think that the question is sincere....

RockMe12: If it's not already obvious by the sarcasm dripping from this page, this is a WAY outdated practice. Google is good at picking up on keywords so don't go out of your way to make it extra obvious, if anything you should be worried to avoid their over-optimization penalties and don't use the keyword too much. Alot of people are even diluting their keywords a little in their page headings.

I have heard buying a bold EMD is guaranteed number one forever for the EMD keyword.

You can rank keywords without backlinks but you must mainly focus researching keywords which easily ranked without backlinks.

Bolding, italicizing, and underlining DOES work. Will that, alone, rank your pages? Probably not, unless you have some damn GOOD content, and lots of it!
    That said...
Does it improve your onpage SEO quality? You bet your ass, it does!
Does it help your competitors know your keywords? Yes, but so will it, if you don't bold them... It's not like your keywords are hidden, right? And if they are hidden, this is one of MANY aspects of Negative SEO, which is highly frowned upon.
Another way to see your competitors' keywords, is to right-click > View Source. Another way, is to actually read the articles/posts on the website.
Again, keywords shouldn't exactly be hidden.

Using bold text selectively and breaking up articles in paragraphs can greatly increase the value for readers. That's why bold text might help for better scores with search engines. However, it won't help to address certain keywords, but it might help to score for long tails like white widgets at night as compared to blue widgets.
