Is the MediaFire virus scan reliable?

I've downloaded a couple of shares from mediafire. I notice that they always have some kind of "scanned virus free" type of message just before the download.

Is it reliable? Or should I also check it with other scanners?

I remember reading a post recently about an online site that will scan your files/computer for viruses. I thought I bookmarked the thread, but I guess I didn't. I think the post was from either Clix or WizGizmo.

I scan everything I download. I dont trust mediafire or FF's new auto virus scanner. If your downloading anything small, I'd suggest http://virusscan.jotti.org. It works great for the small stuff. (crack.exe, setup.exe, etc) It finds viruses that lots of others don't. Online sites for scanning can miss stuff, but Trend Micro's House Call isn't too shabby. I think Panda has one too.

I would certainly not trust mediafire scan 100% ( and same for any other systems). I always double scam the files.

I think it's a know fact that no system is 100% secure.

What you might want to do after your downloads is to use either http://www.vi*rus*tot*al.com/ OR http://www.filt*er*bit.com/

Both are free online apps and will provide additional protection.

when you use these online virus scanner take them with a pinch of salt unless quite a few of them are alerting you of a virus. Some of them will give false positives as they dont like files compressed eg exe packers pe packers ect

So do most people run a virus scan before and after you unzip?

Can't be too careful. Doing this is probably a good idea, especially for exe files.

Plus, after unzipping, you could scan with your PC's (or Mac's) antivirus program AND use an online virus scanner. If both are clear, it is a little safer.

Takes you more time but well worth it, perhaps?
