How important is having the keyword in the URL and does it matter if the keyword is "blabla(point)net(slash)keyword" or "blabla(point)net(slash)blavla-bakaks-basas-keyword" ?

The position of the KW doesn't matter in a URL, but don't keyword stuff.

Having the keyword closer to the front of the domain name helps, but as far as just the positioning of the keyword in the path, there is no significant benefit.

I thought it was important to have your keyword in the URL?

having the exact keyword in URL is important and one of the many things search englines look for.

so for the keyword "big black balls in miami"

    I would recommend something like:

    yourdomain.com/big-black-balls-in-miami

    Google loves friendly URL's

Closer to the domain is important. So:
    Good: "blabla(point)net(slash)keyword"
    Less Good: "blabla(point)net(slash)blavla-bakaks-basas-keyword"

Unless you're selling blavla-bakaks-basas which are really good in summer.

So let me get this straight.. an EMD isn't as important anymore? You could basically sign up for 67ghct4s2j.com/keyword?

    It is.

I'm just saying that it doesn't matter the position of the keyword in the URL. For instance, blog.com/big-blue-widgets is essentially the same as having blog.com/widgets-blue-big. This is because a hyphen in a URL acts as a separator for indexing and ranking purposes. If you are using underscores for some reason, then the position of the keywords IS important because underscores are actually conjunctions.

No... EMDs are still good. Why are people getting the impression that this thread is even about EMDs? He's asking about the positioning of the keyword in a path...

    1) You shouldn't give up your keywords in the forums.
    2) If your site is what I expect it is...

A group domain it shouldn't make a difference but you are going to want it for the interpages though.

EMD's are very important, but an EMD and having the keyword in the url are two very different things. EMD's - when used in the correct format - are more effective than having the keyword in the url like abcd.com/keyword - however, many people aren't aware of the necessary specifics of a proper EMD.

Yes. Closer to the front definitely helps a bit. Look at the SERPS for any mildly competitive keyword, you will see that the URL usually has the keyword near the front. It could just be coincidence, but I usually put mine in the front.

Even if it does matter, it's not going to make or break your ranking when you're up near #1 for a competitive keyword, so either way I wouldn't sweat it too much.

Because his question and the answers following weren't clear about it not being about an EMD.

The example provided by the OP clearly demonstrated that it wasn't about EMD, because his pseudo-domain in the post remained static in both of his examples.
