    Easy answer

Get rid of the meta refresh and use a 301 redirect in the .htaccess file (google how to do this)

Second question, I would personally change it to forum. However for seo to keep all your currently indexed links using a 301 redirect in the htaccess so that any links with the /vb/ will be redirected to /forum/ without losing any pagerank.

You mean can you go back to using a index.html meta redirect instead?

The best way to explain this is that the webhost automatically looks for a file called index.html by default when someone visits domain.com

The .htaccess file is checked by the webhost before it even checks index.html so in terms of performance it is faster.

In addition when you use a meta-refresh what happens is the person visiting your website will download index.html to their computer which then reads it. It will then load the page it is redirected to. When you use a 301 redirect in your .htaccess instead of having to download anything this is done by the webhosts server instead so is also faster.

If you want to go back all you would have to do is change the .htaccess back. You won't gain or lose anything in SEO as the index.html file is not given any seo rating by google as it doesn't contain any useful content.

    Hope this helps,
