Is sub-domain traffic counted in root site's traffic or as a separate property?

Hello,

This may be a noob question, gotta know this.
If I make a sub-domain site - sub.abc.com. Will its traffic be counted in abc.com, when checked in SEO tools or GA?

Q2 - If I make a page no-index, and it gets good referral traffic, will it be counted?

TIA.

1. It's up to you. You can choose to measure the traffic for the subdomain separately or together with the root domain. For more information, google "google analytics cross-domain measurement".
2. Yes, absolutely.

Thanks for your response. I just noticed that Google Analytics is showing me merged traffic for my root+sub domain. That's nice.

But what about the online tools? Such as ahrefs. I know it may not be accurate in terms of traffic but will it show merged or not?

If your sub is noindex, it wont.

If you've connected your GA with an online SEO tool like Moz or Ahrefs (not sure whether Ahrefs supports that), then I assume it will pull all the data from your GA. In that case, if you have one property covering both root and subdomain, it should show the same in Moz as well.

However, if you're talking about the traffic estimates that these tools usually show when you look for the details of other's websites, I think the subdomain is treated as a different website and not included in the traffic details for the domain.

Again, if it's your own website that you're tracking, why would you look at Ahrefs or any other tool for traffic-related details? As you already know, they are never accurate.

In ideal case, sub-domain is a separate site. If you're treating it like same site and having same analytics, then it's better to use subfolder instead.

Its up to you. You can track the website both separately or together by setting cross domain in google analytics.

Gotcha.

Since you asked, I am working on a project where clients sometimes ask for ahrefs screenshot where traffic is also visible. And I am driving traffic from my sub-domain, that's why I was curious to know if that can benefit.

Thank you
