I have come across many social exchange sites, but some people say the links you get form them will come off as spam and others say they help your sites go up in the search engines.

Would using social exchange sites such as youlikehits.com be good for tier 2 links?

They don't provide back links. I believe their is legitimate value to things like retweets. Unfortunately Facebook is cracking down on likes so I won't recommend that. YouTube views I won't recommend either because view time is now being used as a ranking factor. I would personally recommend just using these sites for followers and retweets. You can use them for other non Facebook non google services as well. I'm not sure what your talking about when you ask if they are good for tier 2 links though.

Nope , u can't use social exchange for tier 2 links. But some people say that google also counted social signal in their algorithm. But not really sure how it would affecting it..

Why can't I? They link to my site from their profiles, so I am sure it helps in some way, even if thats just getting it indexed. I plan to build bookmarks, wikis, blog comments and more for my tier 2, but I want some social too for diversity. So using social exchange would be bad for this?

Personally? I wouldn't use that method; in my experience, it's best to network through groups as opposed to using a website like that to get noticed. The results are slow, but at least you know who you're connected with.

they are good for SEO but in massive amounts - regular Social Signals numbers should be used as a support for SEO (diluting bad links, passing authority) rather than ranking all-in-one package.
