Say if you extract a bunch of emails from google search and you sent them all a link to your sharecash, or linkbucks or something...would that be illegal?

    Yes*

*Check US CAN-SPAM regulations as there are a list of rules you'd need to follow if the emails were to be considered legal. Consult with a lawyer.

But be aware that MOST email / SMTP providers (gmail, GoDaddy, Constant Contact, MailChimp) will ban your ass super fast if you get 2 or more spam complaints from an email blast.

    Yes.

It'd definitely be illegal, but it doesn't mean you cannot do it without being caught.

You're telling me US-bound laws are now valid and enforced in the entire world? Must have missed something... :D Come on...

    Check the facts here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAN-SPAM_Act_of_2003

Spam is legal. You have to follow the can-spam rules however. The odds of you getting your email inbox is damn near impossible without breaking some laws/rules.

Yes, i believe so since other countries are still trying to establish their laws. US and UK are the established that i've heard so far. It would be prudent not to do such a thing though since it's basically taking advantage of someone's vulnerability. It's good to remember the Golden Rule of Confucius and i quote "Do not do unto others what you do not want other will do unto you!"

Truthfully how is this not the case? The US has been enforcing its "interests" globally since Post WWII

until you mess with the wrong person.

Anyways, yes, its illegal under the CAN SPAM act and there have been a lot of who got sues but still that's the other 99% people who keep spamming millions of people are roaming free and banking hard! So, it all depends on how you it and what steps you take to protect yourself from getting into trouble.

I can understand people getting bent out of shape by getting hit by (for example),criminal scam spam, but I don't give a shit when it's someone trying to offer a legit service to me. I don't get why people get so pissed off about that. Get a f*cking life.

Personally, I think mass mailing is the easiest way to get traffic to your site if it's targeted correctly and the powers that be know this and want to keep the whole cake for themselves. It seems to me that the game is rigged in favor of massive companies and no one should be surprised that people resort to spamming.
