    Hi all,

I was wondering if you could help me out with a basic SEO question.

I heard that copying content and putting it in your website is bad for SEO and that duplicate content can really hurt your Google search rank.

The problem I have with this, is that I have a sports niche site and in my articles I'd really like to be able to quote people that have been interviewed on other websites.

If I include quotes from interviews in my articles, will it affect my Google rank and be bad for SEO?

I've done some research on this forum on duplicated content, but I haven't found anything that answers my question.

Thanks a lot for your help!

No it wont. And if the source is an authority site, and you link to the original articele as source, it will actually help.

You want your own commentary on your site, though. Do not quote complete pages of text.

Make sure your commentary is quality

Never tried this personally, but another way to do it is with images, simply take a screenshot of the post you want to quote and post it as an image on your site.

This CAN get you in trouble. Google allows you to put a caption on an image, but if you do this with large blocks of text you can get hit.

Also rhe area of the page where the picture of text is will be blank as far as the search engines are concerned, defined by the image alt text. If this area is above the fold, it is bad for seo.

Thanks a lot for your help guys.

It's reassuring to know that I can quote people now.

It's going to make writing articles on sporting events a lot easier!

Thanks again, I really appreciate it!

Im running a test on this for web 2.0 properties and so far its looking like quoting content is a good way to get content.

    This sounds really interesting Adam!

Would you recommend putting quoted content in any type of quoted HTML code or CSS? Or is it ok to include it in articles with normal speech marks "" ?

Most of the authority sites do quoting, so it's note really problem until you give reference to the original url. You can also try tag, i think google won't read content within the tag.

It's not going to hurt you but don't expect any ranking for that page except if the competition is nothing.

Just ensure you make a reference to the site.

Why do you say this? How much influence do you think quoting has on a page's ranking?

Duplicate content can hurt you but they are not going around with a spy glass trying to make sure
you did not quote someone. This is so insignificant that it will not hurt a thing.

I really don't see how you can get hit by uploading images with text?

Are you talking from experience? If yes, how much did you get hit then?
