Pinterest is nowadays are strictly applying their user policy. Which I think is too hard to follow.

For example: They are not allowing short URL's, Posting one Pin in different groups/Boards (even in same niche) leads to permanent banning as they are considering those Pins as Spams. Once they deactivate your Pinterest Profile they will never consider it for reactivating.

Even popular Social Media Sites like Twitter, Facebook, VK, Myspace considers short URL's, affiliate Links and repetitive postings, while Pinterest is strict to their rules.

Though it's provide good social media platform.

Pinterest is useless, don't use it.
    Complete waste of time :)

the entire basic concept of pin is to send referral traffic to 3rd party sites, including ours, so of course it's great for marketing.
you just need to use it wisely.
they are getting ready to monetize so of course they are going to get more strict in regards to enforcing their rules.

It's just like any other social media site. They will continue to crack down on the rules as they mature. Let's put it this way - if money can be made on Twitter and Facebook, then money can be made on Pinterest. There's a specific food blogger website that I am aware of that makes over 10k per month, with 35-40% of traffic coming directly from Pinterest. Last month alone they had 350,000 unique visitors from Pinterest alone.

Yes, you can make money on it. You just need to have the right plan and strategy.

If they are making 10k per month with only 40% of the traffic coming from Pinterest, then they were already an established and successful food blog, which makes it a lot easier to be successful on Pinterest since your visitors will do all the work for you.

Less established blogs with relatively new profiles will find Pinterest quite a bit more difficult to gain traction with these days, with one of the most effective strategies probably being just building an authority site, which of course is a long-term strategy.

I agree with Cazual. From my own experience, Pinterest is garbage. But again, if you spend a lot of time in a specific network, and learn lots of tricks about money making with them, then you can get profits anywhere, even in Pinterest.

Totally useless. Waste of time, don't use it. You're going to do a hard work and will get a really low result.

The comments in this thread is literally blowing my mind lmao. Pinterest is a great source of traffic if you market it to the right people, aka women. Pinterest is filled with women, build a site around a women's niche send traffic from pinterest to your site profit?

So you're saying if we can't even repost a post in other groups. Are you sure? I thought reposting/resharing pins was one of the great cornerstones of Pinterest.

Yes, till date I knew repining was one of the great cornerstones of Pinterest, until I found there rules and there way of banning. You will be confused once they apply there banning rules. You will found that they will say nothing even if you pin advertise and go on repining yourself into several other boards of the same niche even if the pins directly lead you to your business or affiliate webpage. Suddenly, one day you will found that they have deactivated your Pinterest for detecting SPAM activities, even your pins and repining for that day doesn't directly lead traffic to the main affiliate or your business page. If you email the support team by getting confused of banning they will just answer that "your account is banned for spam activities" - I don't know is it there rules and policy? OR there poor support team. Once they deactivated your account, they'll never reactivate it even you request them. I've found other leading social media sites also have rules but the applying is not so peculiar.

Like to point out my comment was a joke, have been using Pinterest for almost a year and can tell you it's far from useless.
Just takes longer to get setup that it does with other social sites: Twitter, Facebook etc..

Ok I see...that is strange. But I guess they don't have a problem with others repinning your content, they just have a prob with us repinning our own content?

    Pinterest is still goldMine
And is the only thing that worked for me in my IM career
Why pinterest is going so hard? Because they are being targeted by spammers way more times then any other social site

Just pin wisely and try to be natural... You will see some massive success

ANY social network is good for IM. All depends on how you use it. My philosophy is DON'T SPAM, use the network wisely and send your traffic to money sites with high user retention, high interest and viral videos and images. Almost every day I come up with a new way to bank from Pinterest, so I don't believe at all that it will die anytime soon.

Use it on other way, Suppose you have a niche and assume to have many female visitors. Now,Because pinterest has lot of female traffic and make a board to propagate content about your site.

Obviously they gonna hate spam. Make a pinterest account for your website ,Verify it and Pour in content. I am sure they are not going to hate it :)

I'm trying to figure out which form of social media will be the best way of starting my IM venture and have been very interested in Twitter and Pinterest. I can see how Pinterest could be very successful in targeting women so I am currently attempting to work on building up Pinterest followers and boards
