So you've got a great keyword. And its available. CATCH? Its available as the .org, not the .com/.net.

If its going to be a 1-time visit website based on lead generation/ad revenue for a business/commercial product, what do you think? Better to just skip the .org and go the harder route without the EMD?

    .org's work fine.

I sometimes prefer them over .com's

Then again, I'm the old school commercial & organisation kind of guy.

    .org.

I have a few .org and I find that it is just as easy to rank as a .com. I always wondered if it carried a little more weight because it was an organization extension and not a commercial one.

I only get .com and .org.

    I'd prefer a .org in an information setting, because when I see a .org I think non profit/government/information site. I don't think business/commercial ;)

And I have a feeling that's how Google views them too.

Yes, don´t worry, go for it. It is pretty much the same or even better than .com and in my opinion, much better than .net

No difference between the top 3, it's really just preference of the owner. Personally I'll use .com for everything then .net followed by .org, maybe .org second if it's an information type site. Really it doesn't matter at all.

<3 BHW. I'm going with the .org.

I'm almost sad for the state of this industry, that the .org is available. What a wasted opportunity. Sigh.

I wouldn't open a store on a .org, but an adsense blog, or something similar in regards to providing information, is acceptable with very little to no penalty.

Don't need a source, if there was even a chance of it being true, there probably wouldn't be any even somewhat decent .orgs left lol.
The idea of .org being for charity/gov/etc are long gone.

I have dozens of .orgs, if not 100+. They rank as good as .net and .com, but from a personal opinion, I'm not a big fan of making them money sites. I mean when you think of big businesses, you think of .com, not .org. I'm starting a new business, where the .org is for sale for several thousand dollars. And I'm on the fence if I want to invest in that, or just go with someting like keywordstore.com. keyword.com is available, but he wants mid five figures for it, and I just can't justify it. That being said, I think it would pay for itself in the long run. If I had a million or two sitting around I think I would get it.

Making some tests on a niche for 3 months. ORG is all OK and sometimes it is better than COM.

.ORG is actually not intended for commercial interests, but practically it is just fine for anything. Give it a go. You will not regret it.

I never understood why everyone thinks .COM is much better than .ORG, I don't know what difference it makes?

Primarily it's a memory issue. If you tell someone to go to Google, Yahoo or some other domain, they will unconciciously use the .com extension every time. I even do it. It's just habit.
