I'm curious to peoples opinions on this. With recent google updates and the like is now a bad time to get into affiliate marketing?

A lot of peoples sites have suddenly gone from making good money to making nothing and no one is really sure what future google updates can do to their sites.

    Opinions...

Its always a good time for affiliate marketing!!!...

The only thing is...you need to keep updating your strategies. A lot of people are now coming to realize (after the google updates) that they need to stop relying 100% on this traffic giant, and look for some other traffic sources in the mix.

Namely: youtube (ironically owned by google), Facebook, pintrest, tumblr or PPC traffic from the 2nd tier search engines like: Looksmart...which have decent quality traffic but for a much lower price.

    Hope that helps!

Google isn't the be all and end all of traffic generation, also its probably a good time to make some money now because they are teaching people at school how to make websites etc so I guess there can only be more competition in the future.

Some people on here never mess with Google because it's so temperamental, and they still do very well. Yahoo and Bing are still used for a tiny percentage of searches, but when you look at how many people use the internet, it's still millions of potential visitors.

Yepp it is, less competition for us.

Seriously, affiliate marketing isn't all about Google although I personally prefer it, there are TONS of places to generate traffic. Check out meathead1234's method for a way of traffic hunting.

Its never a bad time for affiliate marketing. Google or any other company shouldn't matter at all.

A lot of people make lots of money from other sources.

If you really consider how long affiliate marketing has been around, it's barely scratching the surface! Now is a good a time as any to get started. Sure it's more difficult than it was in the wild west days, but think outside the box for your traffic sources and try doing some off line marketing as well and you can still make some good money

It is a terrible time to get into affiliate marketing... that would be one more competitor for the rest of us.

I suggest a door to door sales position as I am sure that would be better.

Soon there are going to be new exploits and new loopholes in the algorithm... there's always a way. Plus as others have been saying Google doesn't run all and it they keep trying to maximize profits I hope they start shrinking or just vanish

I would say that the recent Google updates are a reason to go into affiliate marketing.
SEO is a good way to bring in traffic, especially for sites focusing on earning through Adsense.
Forums, blogs, email lists, YouTube, and social networking are other ways you can drive people to your site.

I make bank month after month with affiliate products and maybe 3% (at best) of my sales come from the serps. Google could do a new update every single day and it wouldn't effect me. It's never a bad time to make money.

Ok but how do you guys get traffic outside of Google? I can't 4 shit. I'm anti-social normally courtesy social anxiety & autism, so I just don't get it. I just don't get it. I can tweet all friggen day, leave pinterests, go follow random people, but still get nowhere.

I HATE this shit, man. It's all social media now, but I'm not a social person. Sucks. My only chance is figuring out how to trick Google.

PPC, Media Buys, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Twitter, PPV, Ebay, Classifieds, Youtube, Forums, Scraped Emails, Flyers, The Newspaper. Basically, anywhere and everywhere a possible subscriber, buyer or any other form of life may lay their eyes upon my website's link, banner or opt-in form.

I guess the trick then lies in getting them to click the link or type it into their computer.
