If niche edits / guest post are not working, then nothing is.

They are the only legitimate links now

Other than self hosting pbn links not the $1 pbn links

Do your homework and make sure that there are no weird spam issues on the sites. If they look natural in terms of metrics and ux, you're good to go

Your case reminds me how choosing the wrong coach would get you nowhere. Who's the person? I don't think niche edits are hurting the SERP of any sites, so long they are not categorically classified as link-spam network.
