Are you sure you're looking at the right numbers as majestic has a fresh index and a historical index. Maybe you were looking at the fresh index and that got moved over to the historical index which happens around every 30 days.
Also it may be that you had multiple links from the same domain as your link was showing on multiple pages. These tend to drop off over time and you end up with the actual page you left your link on.
Either way I wouldn't stress on it. It's also better to keep an eye on number of linked domains IMO rather than actual links.
The real question though is how well do the numbers Majestic is giving you match up to what Google and Bing are actually indexing. While the Yahoo numbers did not have a direct relation to what Google was doing they were both in the same business (ranking websites) so you could see where they would be fairly close.
Majestic and other similar services are in the business of finding your links and showing them to you which is a different animal all together. The bigger the number the more it seems like they are doing a good job. The problem here is we know that Google finds links that it either does not index or drops from the index for quality reasons even though the the links themselves actually exist.
So you have to wonder if the numbers you are getting really have any relation at all to what Google is doing. Looking at some of the link info I have received I have serious doubts that this is the case.
