I want to get into SEO but I want BHW's opinion on whether it is worth it or not.

I know some people can make big money doing this, when they get hourly pay of 60 - 500+/hr, but obviously as I am just starting I won't make this much.

I am pretty young so I have time to learn, but I also want something that could make me money in the long run. How long do you think it would take me to get good at SEO? I have ~4 hours to spare daily, sometimes more and sometimes less.

How long does it usually take to get good enough to start selling your services? I'm looking for all the eBooks/training courses I can right now, is that a good move or a waste of time?

Any advice you could give would be great. I'm also looking for a coach

Go for it dude.. the more you know.. the more you can earn.. best way to learn is to make yourself a website... then use every BHW trick in the book and see if you can really get it number 1.

As for me... I make part of my money doing SEO, and most of what I do I learned right here.

Knowledge is golden, the more you have, the better your chances for success.

It's always good to focus on your strong points while learning other techniques. Learning SEO can do nothing but help you in the long run.

i believe basic seo is essential - you can learn it in a day, putting it in practice and seeing for yourself what works and what doesnt is what takes time

    experience is golden

just fyi SEO is NOT just about web2.0 and getting a ton of backlinks - thats just the very tip of the iceberg

i would highly recommend learning seo you can make extremely good money, start with friends, family or affiliates to gain your experience before moving on to paying clients :)

you will find a lot of info on here but you can also find yourself getting extremely overwhelmed too... concentrate on one method at a time...

    hth

    thanks

It took me about 6mo to learn seo. After that istarted my own company and have been in the business for almost a year and a half.

SEO Is not for everybody though. Some people make money at it easy othersstruggle for years and never make it. The value also depends in what your using it for... Personal, business, etc.

My advice is to read as much as you can all the ebooks and all that... Just don't pay for them. There is not a single ebook that u cannot find rehashed somewhere else... Not to mention most of the time it's nit even about their method it's about learning how dumb asses like Bowie shorts is able to write so good that he can make millions. 99.99% of im are full of $hit it's learning how they are able to sell time and time again that will make you money.

SEO isn't that hard to learn, the hard part is getting quality links and good content....a few terms that give the gist of it:

    Backlinks
    Anchor text
    Keyword research
    Keyword Competition
    Domain Age/Authority
    Onsite opt:
Keywords in H1, Title, internal links +
Also keyword density (which I think is largely irrelevant now for most SE's)

There's more, but understanding these concepts will get 60-70% of the way with white hat.... and like I said, it's getting the quality backlinks to your site that's the hard part.

    No.

Earn BH cash, hire some people to do the SEO for you.

I learned SEO back when I did whitehat...

It's all keywords, google trends, adsense, web 2.0 properties, etc.

    Fuck SEO

What he said. I believe SEO is easy to pick up, you can learn them in a few weeks the proper concepts.

Those listed by sbw are pretty much the summary of SEO and i doubt anyone will have too much problem understanding them. Sometime i feel SEO is overhyped in how difficult it is.

It's really actually doing the SEO Work that is tedious. Of course we are talking WH methods here.

Yes, when I was looking at all the terms I was like holy fuck that's a lot. Thanks for your post.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on buying eBooks, I know what you mean. I am curious - after 6 months of learning, what exactly did you put it to use on? Did you sell your services, what did people hire you for?

Thanks a ton for that list. Very helpful, tomorrow I am going to look those up and see what I can learn.

Well as much as I love BH, I want to make able to make a steady income. It also feels like to learn something. Thanks for your opinion on it, I see that you are an accomplished blackhatter.

To everyone: Thanks for your replies and I am still looking for more opinions. I am going to do some research on all of sbw's keywords. Does anyone have any more key terms for SEO?

I think it's a wonderful and very viable area of study. As long as there are websites there will be SEO in one form or another. You're pretty much building a career for yourself in the knowledge and knowledge is always good. I wish I had been doing SEO for the past ten years instead of doing internet labor and fly by night methods, no telling where I'd be at now, just getting back into it myself.

The majority is usually right on BHW I believe. Go for it and have patience.

SEO is COMPULSORY ! it,s a must if you want to get your targeted traffic thru organic search engine or PPC. you see, SEO is very wide topic, from keyword research (for niche market) to on page & off page optim. once you learn basic (and some advance SEO) , you can do some experiment your self to suit your needs and be creative.

Of course It is. It is really that easy... in less than a week you get all the basics, that are enough to give you some substancial results...

I recommend SEO Bible... It's uploaded here.
