what i did for seo is pick low competition kws. usually with medium to low traffic.

is this still relevant with adwords?

i noticed that i still got views on broad kws on my 1sxt campaing like 'perfume'. so wouldnt it be better to pick broader ones with higher traffic if thats the case to give me more chance of viewing?

what factors should i be taking into account when doing kw researxch for adwords vs for seo?

Highly different. SEO and PPC may strive to have you earning, but go about in quite a different way.
While it's extremely unlikely that an empty website, with 0 SEO will be able to have a great quality score, a decent website, with decent SEO, may very well beat a giant, through savvy PPC. Google's been tightening the screws more and more, to make sure even this refuge from non-giantness (I know it's not a word) is not as attractive as it used to be. For now though, just smartly running an AdWords campaign, especially if you're in a market that allows you to promote thousands of keywords, may bring you much more than SEO, in terms of traffic and eventually branding (which in turn, helps your SEO).

    P.S.

Running things like "perfume", as a broad keyword, is absolutely the wrong way to optimization. Just see the actual searches Google has you ranking for that keyword, you'd be surprised how BROAD it is.

Do phrase, exact, avoiding 1-word keywords.

    Ranko,

There are a lot of things that are the same and there are some things that are different in terms of application of keywords. The tasks you perform to come up with your keywords for PPC are pretty much the same. You are trying to find keywords that your target market is using to find content that you offer. If I am running a PPC campaign and have already organized a list of keywords for the same product/service, I just use those and vis versa.

You are still organizing keywords into tightly themed groups, you are still creating conversion funnels that lead users down a path and your products or services (I'm assuming) haven't changed. You are just using the words in a different channel that is faster and costs money.

That being said, your goals for using each channel may be different and would warrant different keywords. For instance maybe you want to target much longer and more specific phrases for your SEO campaign whereas those wouldn't work well in an AdWords campaign.

Here is a good post on the topic,

I usually pick keywords with low or medium traffic since they can be ranked easily. Some factors i consider are

I used to check the commercial intent if & only if i am to sell something
Used to check keyword trends most of the keywords might have done well in the past but they may drop in future
Pick a list of long tails and use them for seo and for writing contents
And pick a keyword that i find in which i am interested the most so that i can work with the keyword for a long term.
