Im kinda confused about the whole keyword density thing. If i have a website with say 5 pages, and on one of these pages i want to rank for "tasty cheesecake". I hear that keyword density should be around 1-2%, so if i have this on the page i want to rank for, but then coincidentally on another page on the same site mention 'tasty cheesecake' 10 times is my keyword density affected i.e does it affect my intended page's ability to rank for that keyword? Thanks

You need to see KW density based on the page you want to rank for. You no need to worry about another page's KW density.
But in your case. If KW density is 10% on another website its not a good ranking indicator. 10% KW density won't affect the page you wanna rank, but it gives negative effect on the domain in whole.

Don't be too stressed out with that. You just have to mention your target keywords to your pages or post and make sure that you place it properly.

Actually you should stress about it, onpage is more important now than ever before. Read PHP's onsite Guide, one of the best threads on BHW.

Of course keyword density is based on per page criteria. And I think you should focus on primary and secondary keywords based idea as well.

IMO, build cosiderable backlinks for the keyword you're targeting from off-page SEO like blog posts and guest posts, so that the other page with maximum usage of same keyword in on-page won't affect the ranking of the page with less usage of that same keyword you want to rank for.

Well, keyword density is always be counted per page -- Don't insert keyword forcefully rather it should be naturally inserted over the page.

Yeah. Its very important.but i always followed my instincts and focused my time on putting up some natural off-page campaign with social signals ,and that really helped me to rank good on serp.I was but using LSI keywords more than athe than the actual keyword.keyword density is important. But it varies from keyword to keyword
