I was surprised to find out that a competitor of my niche has steal a portion of my website word per word. It was around 3 paragraphs long. I had found this out while using copyscape. Google also had it index. I think however his ranking is bad, site looks bad and honestly I don't think it would go far as it seems the site is a bit overoptimize.

What do you guys do in this situation? Is it worth it to report or I should just leave it.

What could be the likely scenario if I just leave it and don't report?

I am a bit hesitant to report as well since I am still building links on my website and well... I kind of don't want google to focus on my website yet :p

I don't want to sound pessimistic but reporting is also a tedious task. You would need to prove that the content was yours in the first place. This can be done if your article was indexed first.

I am pretty positive mine was indexed first. It was the main page and the first article Ive ever posted. The thing is though if I just leave it as it is would this affect me negatively seo wise even if I mine's the original?

Not sure three paragraphs are going to matter that much.I would advise you to keep watching for any further plagiarism. In that case, report without thinking twice.

To be honest I somehow doubt you'll really have much success reporting it, but it doesn't hurt to try. Depends how much it bothers you. You could try contacting the site author directly.

We always do DMCA takedown requests to Google and the hosting company instantly, when finding someone copying our content. Works pretty well, zero tolerance to content thieves, no need to contact them first.

Good luck with the offshore hosts lol, they will throw your DMCA paper/email in the toilet.

Yep, but fortunately many people aren't that smart and even if the host doesn't care, Google does. So far our takedown success ratio is 100% with Google.

Cheating Google? Totally fine. Simply being better and ranking better? Fine, too. But content theft is something making me angry, even if the duplicated content is ranking nowhere. It's like stealing a bike at the train station because you are too lazy to walk home. I absolutely don't see a reason to ignore it, even if many people apparently don't consider it a crime.

What about people copying your content and posting it using GSA? How many complaints will you make ?
