I'm like to know if its worth crawling the net for expired domains now days. I ask this because I've written some software to crawl the web and check expired domain stats etc. But if every expired domain goes into auction is this a waste of time? Am I only going to find low stat domains no one wants?

    Thanks! :)

There is plenty of software to find expired domains. I actually sell them for a living.

Of course its worth it. You just need to look deeper and take caution to not buy a domain full of spammy links.

If you have the resources, powerful servers/s and the software, then it depends. You will be doing the same as other people who have this and the appropriate technical know how. Also as you said, many domains go into auction now, and crawling the web for the expired domains in the near future will become totally obsolete as most registars will do what godaddy does. I imagine that now majority of the domains found by crawling the web have been expired for a long time and for some reason in the past nobody wanted it. You could just use services like Godaddy auction, etc.

Now here is something to think about: Every domain in the past from years ago that I used whitehat only and that I let expired was bought, even the ones that I have done very little marketing on, and they are still registered even now.

Definitely is worth it. Not all software will simply crawl the same websites that everyone else is scraping.

You can get software that will find niche relevant domains with links in your niche from your competitors, Domain Hunter Gatherer (my software, linked in sig) for example can get such domains. These domains are not on auction sites and can be had for the cost of registering them like a new domain would be.

It is mate. But be careful with apparently-quality expired domains with high DA/PA and lot of backlinks since many of them are full of spams.

As others have said it certainly is worth it, it just depends how you scrape your lists and the parameters you use. You can still find some gems.

Thanks for the replies guys, I set it running last night properly so when I'm out of bed I'll see what gems I've hopefully got! What stats (DA/pa) do you guys consider decent enough to buy at the normal fee? As in not auction.
