So when you are following users, is it safe to use max limit until you get that status: "You have reached maximum follows".

What happens if you reach the max and accidently start it again? Will Twitter suspend your account?

Should I try to avoid getting that "You have reached maximum follows" message?

No, that's not safe. It will go up to 2000 until your following-to-follower ratio is about 1.2 I believe. So even if you reach the limit and try to follow again, Twitter will prevent you from doing so. I usually set it to between 185-200 per day. 200 should be the maximum you do. I accidentally forgot to set a limit one time and it followed 700 people over night and was soon suspended.

However, a more effective way of getting followers (I'm assuming that's why you're following?) is by using the Reply Generator. You get more followers that are targeted.
