Is it recommended to change post date to an earlier date that creation date?

    Hi BHW!

I have a website in a foreign language for 2 years. Now I have decided to build a new website in the same niche but it will be internationalized in several languages (English, French, German), i.e. I will build pages in several pages using WPML. I have decided to go for a new website because the old one did not have the .com extension.

I will also translate some posts from my first website and put the resulting posts on my new website. Nevertheless, I would like to set the visible date of the translated posts equal to the one of the corresponding original post available on my older website. The main reason is that both websites will be connected and I would like to have the user to see the same date if he navigates between the websites.

Example: if my original post was created on March 21st, 2013 I will change the date of the translated post to March 21st, 2013 instead of September 3rd 2014

Can this have a bad impact on the rankings of my new website's pages? Do you think that I should keep the creation date, i.e. March 21st, 2013 in the above example?

Nothing will happen to your rankings if you change the dates. I've done it several times and my rankings remained constant.

I've also changed my post dates in the past and this has never impacted my rankings. I sometimes change the post dates if I originally uploaded the article earlier but took it down for one reason or another.

I actually wonder how many people are under the notion that changing the post date to an earlier date will make their website an aged domain? If this were true, then it would have a positive impact on your rankings, but it's not.

It won't make any difference to your rankings and a website with a lot of posts that looks like it has history just seems more trustworthy to potential buyers.

As I know there won't be a problem if you will change the date.

IMO, you shouldn't change the date. Google 'Past week', 'Past 24 hours' option do track post with date & give people a clue that website is doing new updates. If you don't want to take the risk, just mention the date inside the post!
