I am new here and have been going through many threads/sections here, no doubt, the contributions are superb but i found one thing really questionable, is it right for people to ask for thanks and rep after making a contribution. Ordinarily, this buttons are there and visible, people naturally say thank you + rep if they find your post useful to them. Why should people go extra miles to ask for thanks + rep.

People who judge members by this symbols can easily get misled or what do you all think?

I still believe one can still do outstandingly well without hundreds of thanks/rep.

I would say it's generally not acceptable and when you ask for thanks or rep it's looked down upon. Terms such as "thanks whore" or "rep whore" or similar flames might be said against you. You might even get -REP or a temp ban.

When I personally want to up my rep or thanks I ask myself "What can I offer the community that's worthy of endorsement?"

To me REP & Thanks mean a lot because it shows that other members trust and respect me and I greatly appreciate that. So I do my best to make quality posts that people will want to thank me for.

    ----

    You're also right here:
People judge you by your stats. That's why the mods banned many members who were working to abuse the system by +REPPING each other for no reason other than to inflate stats.

    In response to:
It makes a HUGE difference when doing business with other members. Generally speaking the person with the higher REP either gets paid first or can pay after a service is rendered. REP is an indication of how much trust you can give to another member. REP also is a sign of a members knowledge. People with high REP often have that REP because of great shares with the BHW community, or high quality posts demonstrating their knowledge on a given topic.

I've been seing the same latelly. People posting 6 month old AA "Super Lists" or other old stuff they grabbed somewhere else and after a few minutes comes the 2nd post... "What? 15 views and no thanks no rep? WTF?"
Most times it looks like they're just trying to up the stats to be considered credible, and that always seems fishy to me...
    Just my 2 cents.

Yeah, ignore people who complain "what no thanks or rep" they are what we call "rep whores" just looking for attention rather than doing something for the good of the community.

You are on my side on this "the demon".

Lets get the word out and let people know this is wrong and against the TOS of DIGNITY, you can't buy respect but earn it.

Rep and thanks don't correspond to how much money you make in IM.

Anyone asking for thanks and rep are doing it for the wrong reason. Either you are sharing to help people or you're just trying to inflate your status. If I see "Give me thanks and rep", I just leave the thread.

I thought you weren't allowed to ask for rep/thanks? I refuse to thank those people it's so desperate, if I found a post useful I will give thanks. There are some people who even have it in their signature!

reps and thanks are easy to come by.

either post something witty or better still something that is useful to the members at BHW.

noone should attempt to insult the intelligence of the forum by posting shitty outdated methods or tools. then cry like a squidgy turd when people don't respond with +reps or thanks.

rep whores are usually shown the same level of contempt as the spammers or spoonfeeders. so if you want to start off on the right foot in BHW then contributing something useful will do no end of good for your reputation.

Rep/thanks begging says something about the person doing it. Don't be that person, neither in the forum nor (and most importantly) in your life.

IMO NO! If i were to contribute or share something in the forum, i wouldn't ask anything in return. By asking such things, you are not genuinely contributing, you are investing.

I put extra effort into making certain that I give absolutely nothing to beggars. They stand in the middle of traffic with their cardboard signs and slow things down. Sometimes it's all I can do to refrain from giving the steering wheel a hard right turn, stomp on the accelerator and run them over. I imagine what sound their body might make as it gets all balled-up underneath my SUV, and the WHOOMP! sound my back tire might make after it rolls over them and then thumps back down.

A few weeks back, I have to look at this beggar with his cardboard sign at the intersection on a Sunday morning while I'm on my way to do a job. 5 hours later, I stop off at the gas station by my house, and guess who is standing in line in front of me, counting off dollar bills from this big-huge wad he had stuffed into his front pocket, and the 3 large plastic bags filled with various types and sizes of beer on the counter, waiting for Mr. Retard to figure out how to count to 19.

I'm sure he gets food stamps. Government assisted housing. Disability checks, SSI and has never worked a day in his life. He probably made more in 5 hours of begging than I made working that Sunday.

So, that's how I feel about beggars. You want to beg? Go ahead and beg. That way I'll know exactly who and what you are, and when it comes time to pick someone to do business with, someone I respect and can trust, someone that I would like to see succeed even as I succeed, I'll pick that person. I'll pick someone that would rather die than beg for something he didn't earn. Beggars? As we say out here in Texas, I wouldn't piss on them if they were on fire.
