I have a review blog with four posts for clickbank products. I would like to rank for a keyword search that has low competition but about 4,000,000 searches a month. If I include the keyword in my blog title and submit my blog with the same title that includes he keywords to as many directories as possible, will I rank on the first page? If I will, can I fall off for not updating my blog with new posts?

Having links keeping coming in matters more than fresh content from my experience.

In saying that, why don't you write a tonne of articles (or buy some) and have them gradually post, maybe 1 per week?

So if I just continue to post on blogs and news sites with a link to my blog, then I'll still stay ranked?

That depends, how competitive is your niche? How did you get ranked to start with?

If you ranked with backlinks, then you'll need to continue with backlinks. If it's that low-competition that you don't even have any backlinks, then you probably don't have to worry too much, just add some content every now and then.

it you niche is not competitive, you don't even have to build links continuously.
if you have some high quality long lasting links and you happy with your position you may stop building and stay at that position. This case for no competitive niches, as nobody trying to beat your website in rankings.
if you see your ranks dropping, you may wanna build some more links. i do have few webs ranking number 1 with just 1 unique post, and those webs haven't been updated for ages.
as codo said, its all depends on how tight is your niche and how many competitors beating each other for sweet spots on first page of Google

I will rank #1 for jahgsjhdgaghjsdfas easily. Don't believe me? Google it ;)

So, yes it depends on your competition...

Not every site is a news site where the content has to change regularely. If you have a site about mathemathics, it's more likely that you don't update it every day...

4,000,000 searches a month and no competition ?
    try exact search
and am sure there must be competition
updating content is not that necessary but you need to continue building links to your site to stay on first page

Your search - jahgsjhdgaghjsdfas - did not match any documents. :p
