    I have a friend who wrote a book and has it on amazon. She wants to rank high on certain keywords, but those keywords aren't in the title, nor they are in the body of the page. Is it possible to get it ranked on those keywords? Keywords aren't super competitive, and since the actual domain is amazon, would it help?

    if the competition is really really small, it's possible.

    Yeah it is possible. I have done that by mistake once and KW wasn't mentioned on the page.

    If you get enough backilnks pointing to that page for the keywords, it should work.

    for instance, search for "click here". Don't know how many links it would take, but I would go for it. Not likely they will ban an amazon page for aggressive link building.

    If the keywords are good, why not build a review site or two for the book and link to the book from these sites. Pour link juice into these sites. Then you have a chance for all top 3 spots in the serps.

    Yes but a lot has changed. It used to be that you could simply build loads of anchor text links and the site with the most would rank the highest. These days links become devalued, links are based on trust, looking natural.

    Building 100's of low quality links will get you nowhere.

    The reason adobe ranks so well for the term "click here" is because people naturally link to the site and high quality sites that use flash will typically have the click here to install flash and that is where adobe gets the kind of links that nobody else can get.

    If you spam the living crap out of an authority site it tends to rank higher. Doesn't make sense but it works. :)

    That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't think google wouldn't give a penalty to a page on a site such as amazon.

    Thanks everyone for the advice!

    Yes. Do Google search for "peak oil". Third or fourth listing is "lifeafterthecrash.". Give it a look. Guy basically took the site down. One page with no content to speak of and his meta tags are:

    <meta name="description" content="">
    <meta name="keywords" content="">
    <meta name="generator" content="Homestead SiteBuilder">

    Has large number of links from when it was a legit site, so stays up. Been this way for a year plus.

    Google's purported 200 ranking factors? Yeah, right.

    Tell her to update at least her description of the product with the keywords. Make sure you look into the keywords enough to know how much work you have to do to rank.

    Try to not go in blind.
