So when you use the regular search on Google, Google Images sometimes appears. Is it possible to outrank Google Images? I haven't seen it. However, I have seen people outrank Google Places/Maps or whatever it's called.

Interested to hear some experiences with outranking Google Images.

    Thanks

im not a fan of go0gle images traffic, most people just open the image (not the page) and eat your bandwidth

I don't think you understand what he means. I'm quite sure OP is asking if it's possible to get your site results above the Google images which are displayed for certain strings.

It's possible, look at the results for 'tree': http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&q=tree&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=

Not what I was talking about xD. I'm talking about on the Web tab of Google, Google sometimes displays like 6 or 7 images from Google Images.

I find that to be just below those images is a good thing. G was displaying image results between 4 and 5 and I got much more traffic at five below the images than at 4 above them.

Just keep adding images with keywords, some images will rank.

Very possible, I have a few websites that get tons of traffic from images that show in g**gle web search results.

    1. make sure the files name is the keyword.. dogtraining.jpg
    2. use alt text. alt="dog training"
    3. use title.. title="dog training"

most people do not implement all three of these, big G will assume you have the most relevant pic when you implement all three of these and will usually rank your pic well above others.

I ranked a pic for "motorcycle" one time.. got a pretty nice amount of traffic.

Ya you can beat Google Images by using keywords in your image, may be a little description having some good density of keyword.

    Sure you can.

Just have the keyword in the filename, alt tag, description and on a page optimized for that keywords with lots o backlinks.

There are several example search results like the one given by @Abstroose showing that it is certainly possible
