I have a site that is dedicated to one specific product. Amazon is #1 and I am #2......what are my chances of out ranking that monster of a site for my keywords if my site is optimized and I have some good relative content?

Does it just become a linking battle at some point one the content is there?

What would you do to out rank them?

While it depends on the product there are a lot of products where Amazon is not even on the first page and very few where they are #1 so yes it can be done. Some niches are easy some not so much. What you need to do is look at whatever targeted sites are closest in position to Amazon and use that as your gauge to if you can beat them in a particular niche as it can be somewhat difficult to judge those big sites that cover so many niches.

I blast amazon out of the water every time.

In fact I LOOK for keywords where amazon is at the top. If it's at the top, I know it's going to be easy to dominate in 60 days or less.

Build 10 or 12 web 2.0's in 3-4 main link push styled chains, spam the hell out of the lower links, promote the upper ones with social bookmarking and other social networking goodies. It's not tough to crush Amazon. "Beating" amazon is like "beating" the $1/$3 no-limit game. A little understanding of how to play the game and some ballsy spam is all you really need.

Thats easy :) even for best sellers. if you have a microsite just about that item, all you have to do is sort your on page SEO out. i have had 1 day sites outranking amazon ( with no backlinks ) and medium competition.

are you saying you have had 1 day old sites rank to number 1 with no backlinks ??

Retailer main domains have strong PR and big backlinks, but the individual product pages do not so they can be beaten but you need to use a web 2.0 property to do it. I doubt a MNS is going to easily outrank.
