Is it possible to monetize a tumblr blog?

Hey again everyone, once again i'm experimenting with different ways to make money through IM. Since I haven't made a cent yet i'm trying a lot of different things right now.

If I were to make a tumblr blog and only posted images and the occasional advertisement for a clickbank product, would this be a viable way to see if I can make a cent? Any tips if I can monetize a tumblr blog? If the images aren't copyrighted do I have to worry about anything?

Hey Em! I too tried monetizing a tumblr blog but with no success :( I wouldn't go as far as saying it is impossible to monetize, but with tumblr being such an anti-commercial community site, it is very hard.

I'll give you my example, I started a gaming blog towards an up and coming indie game and gathered over 200 followers who all avidly played the game and posted and reblogged me about it all the time. My blog was gaining around 200 hits per day within only a week and I had a very targeted game merchandise banner which looked amazing in quality. I was lucky to be getting 1 or 2 hits a day, and this was for a very subtle but strongly targeted banner.

My advice would be to look at other promotional methods although tumblr could maybe be monetized with the use or bots or build up of an exceptional amount of followers. :)

Thanks for the quick reply Beven! I was sort of thinking a tumblr blog would be too hard to monetize, I might just go take a risk and make a niche site
 
It is very hard to monetize tumblr blogs. But I have seen a member here saying that he earns $100 a day from adsense from his tumblr blog. So the only option is too test yourself. Write good posts, get followers, traffic, put up adsense and see if you can get something.
