Ok, I need to start a "Downloads" website, one that offers free full downloads which certainly contains copyright infringement and I wouldn't want a web hosting provider that would ban me after all the hard work. The question is after I researched I found a website called dl4all.com, this website is pretty similar to the one I am starting so I want to "spy" them to find which host they use, is it possible?

You can use software called HostInfo which will tell you everything.

Or if you need details down to the last drop?

If you need it all goto: http://www.dnsstuff.com/pages/expert.htm

If you just need DNS info: http://www.dnsreport.com/

You can read the info on where their server is located.

ARIN is a good source for looking up IPs.

this is very good choice for finding out where the website is hosted but sometimes ( specially here in BG) if you bought reseller account, hosting company provide you and personal nameservers and this can make illusion that you host your website by yourself.

whois and rdns assume the ns server is hosted with the hosting company. netcraft and other toolbars actually look at the ip of the server itself to determine the host.

though theres nothing stoping you from doing a traceroute yourself and doing a rdns on that info

    http://who-hosts.com/ is decent for this.

A whois host will not always work. If you use domaintools it will show the netblock name the server is in, but that may or may not be related to the host they are actually on. For example, it could be the name of the host's host or upstream. You can also view the nameservers, but sometimes the site will have custom nameservers or use a separate service for it.

The best to go is usually get the IPs next to and around the server and check their nameservers. Usually the most common nameserver will be the webhost.

A suggest for you to search for...look to rent a box in Russia and it's bordering countries. These countries have little to no internet laws so that's another precaution and protection so you don't get your ass sued.

    Hi,
Look here in BHW there are some good hosting providers including wiredmom service that as far I know she manages a hosting service.

Let me know if still in the search.
