I see that the rates per 100 words have dropped a lot. A lot of writers are writing for as low as $2 per 500 words. This includes some native writers as well. Has it become difficult now to make money online as a content writer ?

There is always a demand for content writers, if your writing skills are good, you could probably quote $3 for 100 words.

Some cheap content writings are good for PBNs, web2.0s, and for other tier 2 links, as i not used for any money sites till now.

Not that difficult. If your writing skills are good you can get paid more. I'll pay you $10 for 500 words or even more if you write well.

The rates dropped just as the quality of content! People find it easy money & keep coming up with such services.

For this rate you'll get a spun article... hand-written articles by decent writers would be at least $10 per 500 words.
I thought it was a paradise for content writers now as people want 1k-3k articles so more writing to do.

I once estimated an average writer to make $20K a year on the marketplace here. Anyone with experience to evaluate whether my calculations are correct?

That's true. Somewhere close to it

Yeah, but it's not only about how much you make. It's also about the effort invested.
Content writing will never be a passive income... And honestly, for a really good, 1K word article, counting in research, first draft, reviews, communication with the client, etc, you need to count 3-4 hours, at best! (especially if t is not your niche, and most writers will write just about anything).

Now, do your math: How much would you need to charge per 1K words to make it reasonable source of income for you? If you charge $20, and not many people here would pay that much for 1K words, you're earning $5-6 an hour... + once you stop writing, your income drops to zero immediately...

In my opinion, considering current market prices and everything else, content writing is not a field to dive into. There are many other more profitable niches of IM

Depends on your quality. In my language (dutch) there are a lot of writers who charge 80 euro or more per article/blog, mostly 600-1000 words.. And I'm sure these are all around the world.

There's a BIG difference between writers who doing it professional (and some had education for it) and people who think it is an easy way to earn money.

My girlfriend's rate is 65 euro for max. 1000 words and she isn't even a professional writer. She writes 10-16 pieces a month for clients beside her own blog business.

If you are serious and your writing is quality you can earn way more than on the marketplaces like here, Fiverr and others. Companies are willing to pay good amounts of money for quality content. There are many writers who charge an hour rate starting from 55 euro/hour and are fully booked each month.

So it's easy: If you want to write for money and join the race to the bottom: Writing isn't the best choice, except if you need cash quickly.

There's always demand. G is crushing spun content & penalizing sites each day. You'll just have to find the right clients.

Based on the type of content writing threads popular here on BHW, I guess this forum is not the right place to find clients.
