Let's say I'm targeting "keyword 1" and I created an optimized page on my website titled www.mywebsite.com/keyword_1 with all the appropriate titles, header tags, alt tagged images, keyword filled article, etc. Is there any reason to put "keyword 1" on my homepage, or on any other secondary pages on my website? Does it build any kind of authority if Google sees it on multiple pages, even though I aim to get that individual page www.mywebsite.com/keyword_1 to be the page that shows up in search results?

I don't think you should be consciously worrying about stuff like this.

If your homepage is targeting keyword 1, the rest of your site should be comprised of articles related to the topic of keyword 1.

Whether or not these additional articles contain keyword 1 is not really important, though it is likely that some articles will naturally have keyword 1 in it.

Sorry I'm confused. You said not to worry about it but then you said other pages should contain articles related to it. So is it necessary for other pages on the site to mention the keyword? Also, my homepage doesn't contain the keyword - it is an inner page on my website that contains it and is optimized for it.
