Or you can stop and start building backlinks after you've put "sufficient" number of articles?

My site has around 170 - 400 to 700 word articles (one per page) and all are indexed. Can i stop posting content and concentrate on backlinking or build anorher site?

Don't get me wrong, I'm still working on my backlinks, i just got tired of posting content several times a week.

my observations are this: i use wordpress for all my sites. the sites that are post driven seem to need content added every so often. i have a weight loss site that used to rank and i quit adding content like a year ago (posts) and slowly it dropped its rankings. other sites that i did using static pages i have not updated and they did not seem to drop. but that's just my 2 cents with a handful of sites. it would seem if you have a blog google would like to see it updated with new posts.

I read that the last Panda update loves new content and it is not a secret that Google loves updated blogs/websites. I think it is better you keep updated your blog and also build your backlinks or outsource it if you don't have the time.

I have a 30 page site that I haven't added content to in a few months and the rankings have only increased, with very minimal link building.

I think it has a lot to do with what the other sites in your niche are doing too. If the top 10 is constantly adding content (along with link building), and you're not, then you probably won't be in the top 10.

Focus on link building. That's far more important than content in my experience. However, you do need to have a decent base of content. The exact amount will vary by niche and competitiveness.

Content quantity isn't as important as people make it. I have six page slim sites first page in some competitive niches.

I suggest you don't stop posting content. Post 1 article once every 2 weeks and that should be ok. I you don't do this, you will drop in SERPs eventually.
    Also keep the backlinks flowing.

making over $20 daily from single site with content which hasnt been updated for some time now.

You could also spin your content now and then so your site looks like updated.

Well, you have some really good earnings, but I still believe posting new content at least every two weeks is the best way not to have a drop in traffic.
