Is it me? Or has google started to de-index random sites that it doesn't like?

I'm not sure if it's just me, if I'm paranoid or what, but it seems like Google has been getting more strict on website indexing and it seems to randomly de-index sites it doesn't like? And they don't get indexed again. What's happening? Is Google trying to slowly eliminate the small players in the game? Or am I just a little paranoid? Does anyone have anything good and fresh to read about Google indexing?

What kind of sites are you talking about specifically that are being de-indexed?

That kind of how a search engine works lol.
It filters out the bad stuff.

This was started on Dec 22. Google usually makes changes in late November but got tired of the massive flack they got from retailers whose sites got jumped around just before xmas season. So this year they put it off until just before xmas. They are placing more emphasis on quality (i.e. single page sites out of top rankings) and social elements (web 2.0, bookmarking). Additionally page load time is now counted. All you have to do is improve your site. Have an about us page, a disclaimer page, a contacts page, and maybe a few others. Basically the same stuff that gives you better quality score for adwords is what they want.

All sorts of sites, different niches, adult sites, etc... But I guess its probably the ones with spam and affiliate links all over...
It's getting harder and harder, not because of competition but because everything is starting to take up more and more time.
