Is it legal to use erroneous information to sign up on exchanges?

I know the bigger exchanges are more prone to freeze your funds. But it's also well known that the less known exchanges are more lax with their policies. I'm not asking for the funds, I'm asking for the legallity of it.

They will ask for KYC to verify the name and other details so you cannot fake it.

Do not give fake information to exchange. They will ban your account with all the funds.
