    Hi there!

Is was wondering if it's legal, by an example, to buy an ebook at Clickbank, a Warrior Forum WSO or something like it (in the internet marketing niche), and then 100% totally rewrite the ebook, so I "only" take the ideas and methods from the ebook, and put them into my own words, and then go out and sell it as a new ebook/product?

Anyone know if this is legal?

Any response to my question is appreciated.

    Thanks a lot!
    Jean

I doubt it. Stanford University has a useful summary of how copyright protections work.

Here is the link to the entire Stanford page regarding copyrights: http://fairuse.stanford.edu/Copyright_and_Fair_Use_Overview/chapter0/0-a.html

    Good luck

If you were to just use the ebook as a resouce to write your new book, then there shouldnt be a copyright problem and it shouldnt be illegal. Seeing as your just using it as a reference.

well, this can be bit vague.

It will depend on how much of it will be rewritten .

technically everything that has been written is a rewrite of something else

I think you should always consider the moral issue before the legal one, especially relating to the OP's question. Treat others how you want to be treated! It's that simple!

With that said, the OP only was interested in hearing opinions on the legality of his proposal, not the morality...

No. Only if you have the legal PLR rights to the ebook that say that you can rewrite it, you can't.

    I resisted the sarcasm...

This is legal, change locations, character names and add some new stuff to the plot to make it work. It's done all the time.

People often bring back old forgotten best sellers with their own spin.

Copywright laws protect expressions, patent laws protect ideas. As I understand it, if 'write 50 articles a day pointing to your landing page and start earning' is not patented, you can legally sell something like 'a landing page will earn good money if there are 50 new articles each day pointing to it'.

how hard is it to just rewrite an ebook and add a few thoughts of your own? As long as you add some of your own content it should be fine.

How many math books are ouy there teaching you how to add and subtract?

At the end of the day why not just use a variety of sources and take the best ideas and have that re-written? Makes far more sense then to just put out more of the same. Maybe your customer will get more out of it that way??? Just my way of thinking. Think about the customer, not what you can get away with.

everyone is worried about the moral part... go to warrior forum and buy a WSO with an actual original idea which if implemented it works. It's very difficult to do because 99% of the WSO's you buy are basically the same thing your talking about here. Why feel morally wrong for rewriting a WSO that is only being sold because the person you bought it from prob did the same thing when making it.

Now if you want to talk morals then the problem wouldn't be a question whether it's morally wrong to rewrite but is it morally wrong to sell something you know is crap. And if it's a WSO it is most likely crap. If someone has a good method their not going to share it with the world. Now if they have an idea that didn't work for them or their money making method is saturated and they want to scape what they can from it by selling WSO's then they might.

You can read the ebook and then write your own based on what you learned from there. That is what everybody does. People learn from somewhere and then create their own works based on that.

I very much doubt it would be illegal but if you're looking for proper legal advice you should be talking to a lawyer, not trying to get it off message boards. :)

But then again who gives a fuck... The chances of getting busted are tiny and the chances of someone then having the time / resources to actually pursue legal action are even smaller again.
