I see a lot of these videos, a montage of a player with music on the background.... Clips from UEFA Chamiopns League, Primera Division etc How are people going past Youtube's copyright guidelines and still monetize the videos with million's of views?

Hi!
I don't see it monetized. Maybe it's not showed up in my country?

Maybe those games are not in content ID or if it is then he altered the video so it doesn't get matched.

competition can press a button and report you for copyright

how can you check if a video is monetized if it isn't yours?

1. These videos are monetized.
2. Most content ID's comes from music or audio. Create a video then utilize YouTube's free music library. Most likely you will be able to monetize.
3. These kind of videos are always risky but hey these guys are doing it, major YouTuber's use footage from other videos or games, so I say, Go For It

First video's channel Goals is making around an average of $4,000/month.

If you read up. Youtube actually has a full expiation about the music, and the video footage.

It is kinda like when talk shows use bits of songs, or footage from news broadcasts. You are allowed to use up to x seconds of a piece of footage as long as you say where it is from. (I dont know if youtube has a standard, or if it changes by country you allow the video to be played in).. For music you can get a lot of free music that you can use in videos all over the internet.

I doubt this guy asked the tv channel sky sports, so it's not legal. sky sports owns the copyright and if you don't get their permission it's not 100% legal. Still people do it, not many get caught. But as dys872 points out, the competition could easily report you and then your channel is suspended.

Exactly, You are 100% right man.

Well, if you have a permission from the TV channel that owns the BBVA, BPL etc rights, it is legal. So basically what that guy does is illegal. It's risky, but you can try it.Btw i saw a lot of football videos monetized from some arab channel footages, try to edit those.

I saw 1 million subscribers channel based on this illegal method and this is still working :)
