I have seen a lot of websites that use the word google in them. Does it make a difference if you use google at the beginning or ending. I did a search and nothing came up specifically. I see some people doing it and was wondering if it's ok to try it?

It's okay as long as it's covered under fair use I.e. you're using the domain for satirical, educational, news, or comment related to google. This is not an all inclusive list of reasons but you get the idea.

You can't do something like register betterthangoogle.com and set up a search engine. Just an example of what not to do. Lol.

Even if it is legal, do you want to fight against G to prove it? Anyone can sue you at any time for anything. Whether the lawsuit is legit is a whole different matter and it would be up to you to show that to a judge (after spending some serious $$$ that you probably don't have)....

Here is a short article that touches on the "fair use" concept Sacrilege speaks of:

    http://www.abajournal.com/news/arti...ro&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=weekly_email

I personally don't think your use of the name "google" in a domain name would qualify for fair use, but what do I know...LOL.

    Hope that helps...

I agree with Sacrilege, it all comes down to what you intend to do with it. If your using it as a brand or apart of a company name, then no. But if you are using it along with a marketing strategy, then yes.. See the word "google" is is google's trademark.

The mere mention of a google (such as "GoogleSucks.com") is not trademark infringement. However, such use can be seen as weakening the mark, because the mark is then often used as a label for a generic product, and not that specific brand. Just like people who use "xeroxing" for photocopying or "Hand me a kleenex, I've spilled my coffee". Its Legal. You may however still get angry letters from Google, but hey thats just them trying to protect their brand.

I would stay with using google in any of my domains, if you piss them off or do something with the site that they dont like they may sue your ass.

It depends on the use. Here's a site that's been around for a long time:

    Paypalsucks.com

    Guess what? Fair use.

I wouldn't recommend it at all. Having trademarked companies or names in your domain is just asking for the domain to be removed or deal with a trademark infringement issues.

Stay away from possible trouble. If you can do it without the google in the name then i would suggest you doing this but its up to you :)

Don't think google would like it in the main domain name.

You also need to find a registrar who will accept it. Godaddy won't allow you to register a domain with google in it.

As long as you put "Google does not endorse this site, and is not associated with it in any way whatsoever." I believe you are ok.
