Greetings, I have a question. If I buy a branded item from aliexpress, for example if I buy an Assassins Creed bathrobe, can I still resell it on my website? Or can I get sued by Ubisoft for selling their merchandise? Thank you.

I'm pretty sure you won't get sued unless you sell a cracked version of their game.

You are free to resell as long as it is a PHYSICAL product (not licensed product). Example, you can resell physical used book but not ebook.

I always thought that these things were protected by copyrights. I've heard a lot of people get into trouble when they designed their own shirts while using a character from a movie or something.

I don't know why these guys think its ok.

Yes you are clearly infringing on the copyright if you do not contact them and ask for written permission. ( If they do give you a yes they will have to review all your products and they will want royalties there will also be restrictions.

    This is not fair use.

I've been wanting to do the same with anime for a LONG time. I have spent HUNDREDS of hours looking into it to find out and sadly
YES it is illegal and they can sue you.

The reason you see it a lot is that people just don't care or just don't realize that it is infringing on the rights and they are just literally taking a chance.

If your operation stays small they probably won't care and will most likely never see it.

If you start making thousands then consider a suit coming most likely depends on how cool they are and if they think you are taking even a small fraction of their pie.

Take an hour or two on google looking up copyright and you will see. Its sad.

I've wanted to do youtube vids and such too but Fair Use is SOOO grey.

A lot of people don't do it, that's what surprised me today. I checked the "nerd merchandise" keyword and the competition was low. I knew that it was too good to be true with over 50.000 monthly searches and yes it was too good to be true because there are like 5 companies that are allowed to sell that merchandise legally. Any small fish that tries to enter the "nerd merch" pond will get eaten by sharks.

Trust me I feel your pain on this one.

For years I've wanted to do something like this.

Best I've found to do is sell locally like on craigslist and whatnot and yes I realize that isn't the scale we intended

I've moved on and may return once I become a bigger player.
