Im pretty sure it illegal, but what kind of action could the owner of that video take?

In example: I download a non-copyrighted video of youtube, and place it on my website.
Could I get in serious trouble?

actually it is allowed to rip off the video and host it on your site, but it is an illegal and a punishable offense by upto 15 years in jail to use the embed feature in youtube.
wait are you serious? so its illegal to use embedd but its not illegal download from and upload to your website..

ive been trying to contact youtube, but their contact number forwards to Googles phone number, and google doesnt have live support..

I think a better way is to rip the video , post it on ur wp blog with a date earlier than the video and then send a D&C letter to utube regarding ur video being hosted on their site .

yea i guess other person is using sarcasm, but still my questions are:
1.is it illegal to download the video from youtube and put it on your site?
2.If there are peoples faces shown in this video, can they sue me for me showing their faces?
3.If I do upload the video but later on they copyright it, would I get in trouble for previousley having it on my site?

The best thing to do would be to get in touch with the owner rather than take the chance, if he/she doesn't answer, forget it and move on.

how is the owner going to know about copyright laws?
they could tell me "Yess yes, please use my video" and then in a week turn around and sue me.

Yes i suppose but if you were to make some sort of contract or something to back yourself up, it might help, I was just trying to give an idea.

Anyway best of luck

dude, just host the site in hungary or sweeden, no one can do anythng even if you infringe laws. these countries have never heard of anythng called cyber laws

just make like its uploaded by someone, they need dmca to send, and then you take vid down, no lawsuit ;)

Commom guys what are you talking about!?!
Just embed the code and stream it from youtube. If someone wants to sue you just say that you don't host it, youtube does.
Worst case scenario the uploader on youtube is guilty because when he pressed the upload button he agreed that he owns the copyright and ONLY HE has the option to make it embeddable or not. But usually youtube just takes down the video

If it is illegal, some people have some serious problems, such a Squidoo. They provide a widget to allow you to put any YouTube video into you Squidoo Lens. I do believe that Squidoo does not host it so... may be that is the way around it.

Where did this rumor start?

Nobody is going to sue you for a video you found on YouTube. The most trouble you will get into is a DMCA notice in which case you just take down the video.

Like others have already said, just embed the video on your site. If the original poster has violated copyright, YT will pull the video down and on your page it will say video removed due to copyright issues. If the video is original then the user can choose to not have the embed code (so if he does you can assume you can use it safely). If there is no embed code and you still use it and the original poster gets mad they can have a DMCA sent to you. At that point pull it down, move on, end of story. If you choose to ignore the DMCA, you're on your own.

The other way around is true

Riping off video is illegal. But embeding is not. Technically you're not copying. Any lawyers?
