Was just thinking... I was supposed to pay 150$ for a text book this semester.. i googled for a few days and found a free ebook of it online.
Would it be illegal if i were selling my "searching skills" to find these students a textbook as a ebook for 20$ or so?

if it is illegal would the feds even care much if im just making a bit of side cash?

thanks bros. all of this is hypothetical obviously. just an idea.

edit: im in canada btw if its matters

funny you bring that up because I was actually thinking of doing the same thing and provide them on the low in my school. But to answer your question, I would presume it is illegal since those books are copyrighted and your basically selling something you have no right to sell. If you wanna be clint eastwood bad@ss you can do it under the radar and sell it stealth.

Yeah, its illegal. Publishers have copyrights in place for that data. You are not allowed to reproduce, or resell it.

It really depends on how many people are going to report it. Hypothetically speaking, if your selling copies to people you know, it's much safer.

If the publisher finds out of the copyright infringement, than they will take action.

A few months ago, I read something in the newspaper about publishers starting to offer textbooks in digital format.

Maybe if some legitimate vendor of e-textbooks has an affiliate program, you could make money. Maybe put up flyers at the school advertising a way to get textbooks in digital format for much cheaper or something.

I dunno; I'm just kind of thinking out loud here. I never went to college so I don't know how textbooks and all that work...

How about monetising it using CPA offers...u could slap incent offers on the site and offer the book as an incentive for the offers theyl fill...u could put some high paying offers..like book deals...that pay like 50$ per lead or just use simple email or zip submits... it all depends on u:p

    It is illegal.

It's a good way to get sued. So, be smart and don't do it.

You know how they say - "It's a crime if you get caught".
But, i think all school books are property of their authors, so if you sell someone else's work, your are breaking the law.

Yes it's illegal to sell copyrighted material that you don't have rights to sell. If you can find a vendor who provides the digital format and become an affiliate you can make some money. I'm pretty sure if you put up a flyer that links to a website you create to get an email list you can find other ways to make money off of other college students.
