is it illegal to say "As Seen on CBS News" or whatever when your product wasn't?

I have an email address that I use to sign up for bullshit just to see a) what people are doing and b) who is doing it.

I get a lot of emails with subjects like "AS SEEN ON CBS NEWS" and it's for some acai/diet/weight loss/forex/flavor of the month" scam product.

Surely that's gotta be illegal. That product wasn't actually seen on CBS/Oprah/20/20/Dateline/etc.

It's not illegal if it was on the news for any reason. Like acai was on for being a shitty weight loss product. Still was seen.

Even if it is illegal no one is really going to bother hunting down and arresting/fining the people who do it. Although I imagine some acai product has been shown on CBS and thus they may claim that the acai part of the product was seen on CBS.

I am sure a lot of things you do or have considered doing is not entirely legal. Yes I am sure it can be illegal, but you are in the black hat world... I would consider it more aggressive. If executed properly with a sound mind then you are entitled to explore.

I can almost guarantee 99.1% if not 100% of the people in this world have manipulated something in their life that was "Illegal". Its the world we live in, either you play it safe or you walk the line...

Just place a copy of your product in top of your home TV. Technically, you could then say "As Seen On TV" :)

a lot of them say at the bottom something like this: The trademarks in this image are owned by their respective owners who do not endorse this product.

    As Seen on CBS:

To rip off WizGizmo's idea, find a Chocolate Bar & Sugar, pile them on top of each other, and put the product on top. Take a picture and store it on your server (don't show it; just there for proof).

    Oh every thank Wiz...

I use to know a big time Guru Marketer, Norb from the nichechoppers forum, he personally advised me to just run a ppc ad or abrite thing for $30 worth of impressions or clicks. Then you can say you were featured on that site or "network".

Actually, there is a loophole these advertisers use. If they ADVERTISE their product during the CBS News (or whatever) they can make the same claim.

A lot of Clickbank publishers do this, even the reputable ones.
